The beginning of 2019 for MICROMINE Africa employee, Warren Dean, Pitram System Specialist, meant travelling across the globe to Mexico. Warren flew from Johannesburg to Atlanta in the USA. He then took a connecting flight into Mexico City and from there got on his last flight to Zacatecas, a city in the centre of Mexico, also known for being a 16th-century silver mining hub.
Fresnillo Plc was the final destination for Warren and is the largest primary silver mine in the world and has been in near continuous operation for almost 500 years. The Fresnillo operational staff needed training and support for their Pitram solution. Warren also conducted training for Antonio Jimenez, the new Pitram resource in Mexico. Antonio started working for MICROMINE in December 2018 and Warren was there to show him the ropes. Their focus was on how to implement systems as well as how to offer Pitram support to the Fresnillo operation. This involved end-user training and troubleshooting. This focused on reporting, shift planner and OLAP cube. Warren also provided Antonio with the necessary access to virtual machines and training manuals.
Warren managed to explore every part of the food culture in Mexico, where his diet consisted of nachos, avocado and chillies all mixed into different variations of Mexican dishes. The main dishes Warren had were burrito’s, huaraches, flautas, nacho’s, taco’s and tortillas. Needless to say, Warren had consumed enough chilli and avocado for the year and also developed an immunity to hot food. A highlight worth mentioning was that Warren bumped into an old friend, a soft drink called “Fresca”, which is no longer available in South Africa.
After 3 weeks on site, Warren came, Warren saw, and Warren conquered. It was time for him to head home. The Fresnillo team was grateful to the MICROMINE team helping. Also, Antonio is now equipped to better service the current and future Pitram clients in their region. After 3 flights Warren touched down in Johannesburg, South Africa, ready and waiting for his next trip.
